I really wanted to like this as much as serpent and dove, but I really hate Jean luc. I struggled with celie. I understand that she has been through alot, but she is so annoying. I kept putting down this book because I disliked the characters so much. If it wasn't for it being in the serpent and dove world, I wouldn't have finished.
Celie did grow during the story and the vampires honestly were my favorite part. I am going to be reading on because by the end I was invested.

I expected more spice from this book, but I did enjoy the plot. A typical kidnapping with the victim falling for her kidnapper is eminent, plus the addition of the world of vampires adds in a greater thrill. The ending is where the pace quickly began to pick up, though I had hoped for more romantic relationship evolvement for the main characters. The final ending left us with so many unanswered questions, so I hope that the second book comes soon in 2024.

Starting this book was a struggle. But by the end I was sobbing. I had completely fallen in love with the characters. That ending...physically hurt.

The story follows Célie Tremblay. A huntswoman engaged to the new captain of the huntsman, Jean Luc. (Ooh La La!) but once she meets Michael that goes completely out the window (This is totally fine by me cause Jean Luc is an arse anyway).
Together Célie and Michael work together to try to unravel the mystery of multiple deaths in the kingdom. Bodies completely drained of their blood. This hits home for Célie once a beloved friend is attacked and found in the exact same way.

This book is filled with turn after twist and another turn. Before I knew it, I was completely captivated in the world, the characters, and right now as I write this, I HAVE A GREAT NEED for the second book. I honestly can not wait. I feel like I can't rest, can't read another vampire book until Ive read the last page of the last chapter of book 2.

It was so easy to get into this book. However, the sentence “Bile rose into my throat” is on like every other page which definitely knocked my rating down a little. I didn’t read the Serpent and Dove series before this which made the storyline a little confusing so I would recommend reading the series first. The open ending was also a little disappointing because I read over 600 pages just to not know what happens, but I’m very excited for the next book to come out.

I really loved this book but I hate the nickname “pet” so much that I took away a star. It is such an icky name. The plot was great tho!

I stayed up till 130AM to finish this book. And it was so worth it.

Please read the Serpent & Dove trilogy prior to this! This book is set in the same world, just from the POV of another character and you’ll need to understand the context prior to reading this book!

This book made me laugh and want to sob violently afterwards. It is beautifully written in the authors well loved style and the characters are so fresh and exciting, i sunk my teeth into this book so fast and now I wait so impatiently for the next one.
