I love that we get to see Célie as a main character in this new series and I want more now!! The twist at the end in the epilogue has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book!

Honestly, I bought this book not knowing it was connected to the Serpent and Dove series and I am very glad I didn’t read it first. While I wasn’t a huge fan of Celie, I also didn’t dislike her and that didn’t change much throughout this book. Michal, however, I ADORED. Absolutely loved him. And I love the plot, the lore behind the vampires, everything about this. And it is because of that that my disinterest in the FMC didn’t matter. This book was still very good and perfect after reading the Serpent and Dove series and I can’t wait for the next one.

The writing was fine and I felt like there was a lot of potential initially, but everything fell flat, in my opinion. I've noticed that readers often complain about female protagonists in YA books being dumb, and I usually think people are being too critical but in this book I'd have to agree. There is nothing wrong with a clueless character like Celie, but it feels like a joke that other characters keep telling her how clever, intelligent, and capable she is. Be honest about her- she has a good heart and she means well. No one is great at everything and that is ok. This was very insta-love and awkward. I did find the epilogue intriguing, so maybe I'll give the second book a chance but I don't feel too hopeful about it.

I started reading this book when my fur baby got sick. Sadly, she passed away on the 9th, and when I saw the name eden in the book, I cried. I didn't think I'd be able to read because the grief has been really bad, but I'm very thankful this book was able to help keep my mind busy.
The romance build-up between Michal and celie didn't feel rushed and kept you on your toes🥰 Romance, adventure, witches, ghosts, and a strong female lead that we all need💚
