I didn't really like this one. I loved the hilarity of the Guncle but this was too maudlin
A fun book throughout. I love Steven Rowley's writing style. The synopsis alludes to this, but be prepared for the ending to be a little emotionally heavy and somewhat abrupt.
This book satisfied the "recommended by a celebrity book club" prompt on my 2023 reading list.

2.5 stars - I felt like the last 30% was better than the first 70%, but not my fave. I like the idea of having living funerals for your friends so nothing goes unsaid, but it was slow to start for me
It was fun to read this book after reconnecting with old friends at my 25th reunion. I liked the idea behind the story and found myself admiring friends who were actually able to stick with a pact. The back and forth in time was sometimes a little jarring and the banter didn’t make as much sense in the beginning — before we knew the characters — as it did in the end. But all in all it was a fun read with some life lessons woven in. I preferred the Guncle to this book but enjoyed both and will look forward to reading more from this author.
Would rate closer to 3.5 ⭐️
I think it’s still a good read if you’re a fan of Steven Rowley. Unfortunately, The Guncle just is so top-tier for me that it’s hard to beat that!
The characters took me a bit more to “get,” and the storyline didn’t flow as well for me, so I couldn’t rate it as high because I just wasn’t eating it up.
My fave parts were the several really mind-blowing quotes on life that stopped me in my tracks - I will cherish those nuggets for sure!

Steven Rowley has once again stolen my heart. This book is so masterfully written, I couldn't help but devour it in two sittings. The Celebrants is the story of a group of college besties who make a pact after losing one member of the group young. If one of them needs to be reminded they are loved they will call the others. The alternating timeline of the book was a little chaotic at times but the story was incredible.

Touching, sweet, entertaining and LOL-inducing. Feeling grateful for Rowley’s voice in the world right now.
Not one to read anything classified as “humor”, this book was so much more. I enjoyed the laugh-out-loud moments. Although it was 300 pages it seemed much shorter. Characters were great, each in their own way.
