I love the idea of living funerals, so I did take that from the book. It’s a fairly entertaining read, but I felt the same about The Guncle—the characters are just a bit too two-dimensional and the story itself was just okay.

In the spirit of the celebrants: this book could use more Courtney Love, less Thorne-Smith. But, still liked it, 3.5.

Loved the premise of this book about celebrating our lives with our friends while we are still alive. It was fun getting to know each of the characters and almost feeling like you were in the friend group with them. Read this after the Guncle series and I am really enjoying Rowley's writing.

I absolutely loved The Guncle, and was so excited to pick this up, and also see how Rowley does an ensemble cast. I was heartbroken, but not at all disappointed! The characters are all so uniquely funny and crazy and relatable, and their dynamics as a group felt warm and familiar. It will make you cherish the time you have with loved ones, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
