decent story, found it a little slow, worth it for the scene when they're tripping on shrooms, lol.

A beautiful book! What would you say to about your friends at their funeral? Why not do it while they are still alive? That’s the wonderful premise of this book that follows a group of 5 friends, who are shocked and unsteady at the death of a sixth at the same time as their college graduation. They make a pact to invoke a funeral for themselves when they most need the core group of five around them, for whatever life has thrown their way - divorce, death, even prison. It makes you ask yourself the questions… who do I want to surround me when I am most in my time of need and what do I want to be remembered for?

Heartwarming story of enduring friendship, love and the lives of college friends. They reunite several times to support each other through hardships, as families by choice often do. Heard the song Don't You Forget About Me shortly after finishing it, which seemed appropriate as it had the same type of vibe as The Breakfast Club and St. Elmos Fire.

This book should be right up my alley. It begins with five college friends senior year grieving the death of a roommate. They commit to having funerals for each other to celebrate their life while they are still alive. They meet up throughout their 40/50s as they navigate growing close and far apart. The story doesn’t go deep enough to connect with the characters and some of the plot lines are not realistic. All in all a decent vaca read.

Really more of a 3.5. I really like the premise of this book (and as a plus, I will read pretty much anything set in Northern California), but I found the majority of the characters insufferable. The beautiful, poignant ending saved this one for me.
