A favorite family friends would read aloud to my kids at their house ! Great illustrations toy with perspective and narrative point of view
Disturbingly good, if I remember correctly. Kind of dark. With glossy, deeply-pigmented pictures. I have fond memories of reading and re-reading this, mostly for the sake of the pretty pretty pictures. (I think there was a kind of Stranger-Than-Fiction-esque narrator who the protagonist hears, and that part was also kind of amusing but also kind of frustrating because I so wanted the little mouse to be able to enjoy his bloodred berry in peace and that derned narrator kept messing things up...)
I received this book as a baby shower gift. It is a very cute, very insidious book. The pictures are hilarious, featuring a mouse doing ridiculous things because he is so afraid of the big bear that might come eat his strawberry. As others have said, the result of the very simple text is that the narrator has been making the mouse afraid all along in order to get half of the strawberry.
I know some people object to books like these (I'm also thinking of I Want My Hat Back) because they are so manipulative of the reader and do thrive on some fear, but I actually look forward to reading it with, and then explaining why it is so funny, to my little girl. I hope she finds mischief as funny as her parents, and grows smart enough not to be taken in by it.

Loved this book as a kid, I can't believe I remembered the images so vividly. So cute and short, love it.
Adorable little mouse and illustrations. Olivia approved!
Great book to read aloud to toddlers. Recommended for story times.
This book rocks. Just enough text, very amusing illustrations, well done all around. Great for the 2-3yr set.
Finished my first book for the Stay Home Reading Rush.

This was my husband's favorite childhood book (evident as the spine is in pieces) so I thought it would be fun to read. The Woods also did another of my childhood favorites, Heckedly Peg.
The story itself is cute and humorous. The illustrations are vivid and adorable.
This was a joy to read. My husband still looks back on it fondly and I can see why.

SO MUCH NOSTALGIA. This was one of my absolute favorites as a child and I had completely forgotten about it. I'm so pleased to have rediscovered it.
