Listen. I adored the first book. I was like, 'this will be such a cute three book series!' And then the 4th one came. And then the 5th one. And the 6th one. And the 7th one. And the 8th one. This series could have been cut in half. So here are my main issues.
1. Sophie.
A lot of people didn't like her 'zombie phase', but I thought it was okay. It was more realistic then her being fine with it. But the real issue is when she is freaking weak the whole book. I get so mad when she gets to her snapping point and I'm like sis is about to go off and Keefe is like 'Babe it's alright woosh calm'. NO! LET HER DO SOMETHING. INFLICT PAIN ON EVERYONE. All she does is enhance others.
ALSO, SHE CAN TELEPORT?! AND EVERYONE FORGETS THIS. HALF THE ISSUES IN THIS BOOK WOULD BE SOLVED IF SHE TELOPORTED.
2. Vepella
Is that even her name?? I care so little about this 'villain' that I don't even remember her name. I get it. She's evil. Oh no.
3.Tam and Linh
I irrationally don't like them. They exist for the reason of plot. Oh, we need someone to have a cool scene in the ocean. BAM new character. Their backstory is Shannon going ANGST ANGST PARENT ISSUES ANGST. I feel like their just a knock of Bianna (who does something! Yay!) and Keefe.
All in all.... It's an okay book.
This sums up my thoughts on these books: I'M INVESTED BUT NOT BY CHOICE. I'm reading purely for what happens at the end. Heck, I would be okay if Sophie died at this point

Still a solid contribution to the series, lots of whimsy and excitement, but also starting to drag just a bit in pacing. Could have been trimmed a bit.

this book was a lot slower than the other ones and a tiny bit more romance focused, which is fine with me! hoping sophie and keefe get together in the next book. also, new villain unlocked?? so excited to find out more about their plan.
