Cute and well-executed but not terribly memorable.

Fans of Dog Man will enjoy this new series about a girl just trying to fit in and who decides to lean in on her misunderstood personality by becoming a villain.

Hilarious, action-packed, dynamic and fun illustrations. Love that Missy (the main character) is Asian but the story isn't about being Asian. Also love the original twist on superhero/supervillain stories!

Fun. Love the bad-but-not-really character. This will be a well-enjoyed series.

[I received an electronic review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]

3.5 stars=Good+
This was a fun read! It's meaty for a graphic novel; I felt like I got my "money's" worth out of this. The book introduces the "villainous" characters, and then in chapter two shifts to their origin story. It was unclear to me if the first chapter takes place after the events in the rest of the book or if there was some shift mid-way through back into the original timeline. Either way, I enjoyed the story.

The artwork here is lovely. My review copy only had the first chapter in color, but even in black and white, it's great. I enjoyed the characters in this, and there are some laugh-out-loud moments. There's a nice teaser at the end for book two. I think this will be a big hit with kids!

Rating 4 ⭐️ I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this book and have to say it was such a cute middle grade read. Quick, easy read with lovable characters. Mischief and Mayhem are such a good team. From start to finish this was a unique take on hero/villain comics. The artwork was beautifully done and I will definitely be picking up a final copy of the book so I can reread it in color. Since it is a middle grade read I did passed the ARC along to my nephews who are 10 and 8 and they love it. Really recommend this book to anyone. Especially if you have a little one that it still trying to get into reading. This story will be easy for them to follow and if they love hero’s this book will keep their attention. So be sure to grab your copy June 15th!

This one started out slow but once a character named Melvira arrived the story took a fun, exciting turn. I loved the dynamic between Missy and Melvira. I think kids will find this wonderfully dumb. In this world, there are all types of people, animals, and even sentient popsicles. It’s rare I see a kids’ book that acknowledges heroes aren’t perfect, and that, sometimes, being mean and excluding people can (inadvertently) create villains. Subtracting a few points for the gross-out humor though. I guess vomiting appeals to kids. Anyway, in two words: chaotic fun!

Ending spoiler: <spoiler > I haven’t seen a kid anti-hero since El Tigre :D

Need something for a reluctant reader? You may give this a try.  It would fit right in with Dog Man, Lunch lady, etc.  Mischief is the secret identity of Missy and her cat Mayhem.  They got kicked out of super hero school, and decide to become super villains instead.  This is very tongue in check.  It’s cutesy, and funny, but not super “girly”.  It’s geared towards early chapters and overall it works.  I didn’t care for it, but my nephew loved it!
