The book did not let me down! The prologue caught my attention as you immediately want to know how Helen ended up where she is. In the initial chapters we are introduced to the boat crew and given some background and then, starting off relatively small and growing in seriousness, the chaos that was Duchess’ Atlantic crossing unfolds.

There’s suspense, mystery and some really unexpected twists in the book. My suspicions were correct in one regard, but the epilogue had a surprising twist and I like how not all of the loose ends are tied up and you’re still left guessing.

Helen is an experienced skipper and has taken a job to sale a yacht from Scotland to Gran Canarias and then on to St Lucia and deliver it to its owners. The money she gets will help her get out of debt. She has asked her friend Erin to take a trip with her and another ten people who will be her crew on board. Which includes her son Carl and other acquaintances through her work. The task is a test of her endurance and the crew with her as many of them don’t get a long together.

When they arrive in Gran Canarias and one of the crew members Hugo is knocked unconscious. She asks her son Danny to fly over and replace him. But Danny doesn’t get on, not only with his brother. But certain members of the crew. They don’t trust him and when some accidents happen on the yacht. All eyes are directed at him.

Thank you, Bloodhound books, for Heather J. Fitt latest book. It is her third book that she has written, and the author seems to be getting better and better. This is a compelling and tense read, with well developed diverse characters and the author has really done her homework in researching life at sea.  I couldn’t put this down and basically read this in one sitting. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store next. 5 stars from me.
