As a big fan of Moriarty… this book just didn’t hit the spot for me as some of her others have! It felt similar to “What Alice Forgot” in that I kept waiting for something to happen yet it never did. The story starts off promising, introducing a love story with a slight twist of an ex stalker - however, that’s literally about as exciting as it gets and it simply continues on to be 502 pages of conversation!

The good news is… the majority of novels by Moriarty I have LOVED (except “What Alice Forgot”)! This one was either just not her usual standard or just simply not for me!

Really, fun read! Would have been perfect for reading at the beach!

I find all of her books (or at least the 4 I have read) to be addictive

This was a novel by a rather popular author with an unusual premise: two viewpoints, one is the stalker's viewpoint and the other is from the stalker's ex boyfriend's new girlfriend who happens to be a hypnotist.

This was a subject matter that you rarely hear about because stalkers typically tend to be men. This however involved a female stalker who couldn't let her ex go. Patrick painfully dumped her and since she was pretty active in his son's life, this was hard for her to let go of.

This was an interesting story to say the least and I ended up rooting for the stalker shockingly enough. However, it wasn't my favorite book by the author and not the first one I would recommend when recommending this particular author. Definitely a summer/if you have already read the author type book.

Surprisingly intriguing

I am the first to admit that I detest endings with a perfect bow. It just never seems realistic to me. But, I felt differently about this book. I had a hard time understanding the hypnotist’s patience with her boyfriends stalker, but for some reason, I was determined to find out how it would turn out. I kept thinking it would be tragic, but I will be the first to admit, I actually though the perfect bow for the hypnotist and the stalker was a fitting end to this story. I enjoyed it very much...as I have with Big Little Lies; Truly, Madly, Guilty; and the Husband’s Secret before.

Rating: 3.25
I don't usually read this kind of book.
In the beginning, I didn't like it.
When I finished it, I liked it (but not loved it).
I think the characters are believable, but there were some details in the story that seemed to be glossed over instead of properly explained.

4.5? 4.25 stars? I just really like reading Liane Moriarty's books. The stakes are never too high, the women are always complicated and interesting but not terrible (I love an anti-hero/heroine as much as anyone, it's just that sometimes you want something nice; like while you're reading I'll Be Gone in the Dark, for example), the humour and dialogue feels so real. I also wanted to commend her treatment of hypnotherapy and stalking, because she treats them as seriously as they deserve to be treated, and she effectively described how often people write them off, and how that flippancy impacts the affected. Being stalked can drive you ABSOLUTELY FUCKING CRAZY, and it's so much worse when no one takes you seriously just because there isn't any physical danger. Saskia is sympathetic, and I actually even liked the character overall, but also, at the same time, fuck her. Poor Patrick.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this one. Not quite as much as Big Little Lies, more than The Husband's Secret. I'll probably pick up Truly, Madly, Guilty next, as it seems it's not one of her best, and I want to save the good ones up. Of course, first I'm going to finish working my way through the "Currently Reading" list - narrowed it down from 75 to 64 since January!
