The sins of the mother are imparted on the children… or so it seems, in this fast paced, well-written page turner! Mia nearly loses her life as she tries to find her missing twin brother, and prove his innocence in the murder of one of his teen-aged students, all the while living with her own demons and discovering long hidden truths from her past. The setting in a small town in N. Dakota where everyone knows everyone and secrets and scandals abound helps to set the tone for this exciting debut thriller.
received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
I'm going to give this a neutral rating.... I will explain don't worry.
I hate to say it but I did not finish this book, first one on Netgalley i have not finished. I read up to finding out who it was and where lucas was and after that I just couldn't stomach it anymore. Honestly I wanted to quit halfway through the book, Mia is just so fricken annoying to read through her thoughts. I mean come on, I know she kind of cane into this situation clueless but she jumps back and forth way too much, one second she knows Lucas is alive next she is deciding he is dead then alive, then he's innocent she knows he could never do these things she finds one clue and OH MY GOD HE DID IT HE REALLY DID IT then he's innocent all over again it's just too much for me I'm sorry. Not to mention I figured out why Lucas was doing the paternity thing WAY before she even found the stuff behind the bookcase, not sure if it's just predictable or I've just read too many books but I'm honestly angry with myself i talked myself into reading past the first time i wanted to quit. I hate that i wasted this much time trying to stick it out, I'm not saying the book is crap don't read it but I am saying if it is annoying you too much to stick through just drop it. Then you get to who it is doing it and it's like really ???!? that's the best you could come up with ?! It seems to have decent reviews so glad she didn't write it for nothing and some people like it, but it's just too repetitive and back and forth for me. But just because it's not my cup of tea doesn't mean it deserves backlash or it's a horrible book, read it and share your own opinions! Maybe you'll like it

Broke down. Read the epilogue. Didn't like it
Pretty good, but the ending was a little too tied up for my taste.
3.5 stars
This book’s synopsis immediately grabbed me. It won’t be a surprise to many, to know that I really enjoy a thriller. I have read so many in the genre so I feel that every single time I pick up this genre, it has a lot to live up to. I really enjoyed Follow Me Down. I didn’t find it overly predictable or cliche like so many thrillers are becoming.
Follow Me Down centres around Mia who hasn’t had the easiest of childhoods. She struggles with an addiction to pills. Out of the blue, Mia receives a phone call from the police. Her twin brother, Lucas, is suspected of killing a teenage girl. He’s gone missing which certainly makes him a person of interest. Mia is convinced that her brother is innocent, so goes back to her small town to try and clear his name.
I really liked Mia from the start. I loved her determination to prove her brother’s innocence, despite some evidence not being stacked in her favour. I also really appreciated how Mia wasn’t a perfect, flawless character. Mia was carrying a lot of trauma from her childhood and was really trying to make life better for herself.
The reason why I haven’t given this book a four star rating is because it got a little slow towards the middle of the story. Don’t get me wrong, it was easy to read, but nothing really kept me gripped besides my desire to find out whether Lucas was guilty or not. The pace does pick up towards the end, so I would definitely recommend staying with it. I enjoyed Sherri Smith’s writing and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another book from her!

I naturally love a good thriller and mystery novel. This was so well done that I am already anticipating what Sherri Smith will do next. I am so impressed with Smith's style of writing. It's like a timer is trailing through the book. The suspenseful scenes are done fantastically throughout the novel and the 300+ pages really went by quickly!
Each character introduced had their own story inside of the main mystery as to where Lukas is and who killed Joanna. And not one of them were to be trusted. Smith did a fantastic job of making sure no one was introduced and then later forgotten. I was surprised how easy it was to keep track of everyone!
I was impressed with the small tidbits of stories from Mia and Lukas growing up and their relationship with their mother. It wasn't done in a mundane way that I have seen in previous books I've read. These were small and got to the point of what we needed to know so that we could continue trekking along in present time to find out where is that damn Lukas and who killed Joanna?
This novel was suspenseful, captivating, and really sucked me in from the first page. The suspense, mystery, and at some times, heart was there. Within a double mystery, there were even a few other things I didn't think would amount to a mystery or something that would shock me, but this does not hold back on the shock factor of a true mystery novel.
And then the ending happened, and it all made sense. I really didn't see this coming because this was quite frankly, a town full of bad people and each was a red herring to me. I wasn't surprised with the reveal of who was responsible because they were all so bad, but I did love the reveal and was quite shocked with a few things with that ending!
