meh. second Pulitzer prize winner in a row that I have read lately. not on the same page as the committee. Sad and lovely. I think I need to think about it for another month. Here's my favorite line: "Winter came and he put the wagon away in the barn, where mice and stray cats nested in a half-frozen truce in the drawers."

The imagery that Paul Harding creates is unbelievable. Though I did sometimes find myself losing the story in the poetic writing, it was a very beautiful read.

It is the rare book that hypnotizes me with its sentences, Paul Harding certainly did so in “Tinkers.” The story follows the fever dream thoughts of George Washington Crosby on his deathbed. As much about his father as it is about himself. Loss, grief, illness and clock repair are all colored in depth.

So, I didn't finish the last 30 pages of this until about 2 hours AFTER the book club meeting to discuss it. Nothing major happened in the last 30 pages to change my 3 star rating to a 4 star rating. The book was beautifully written but it just wasn't quite my thing.

Despite the confusing switches between the father and son, this was exceptional.
