This book was such a joy to read, I really didn't expect to like it as much as I did (no real reason). Finn and Oliver were super sweet and I loved seeing their relationship unfold.

•minor spoilers•

I was a fan of Oliver from the beginning. I love characters like him who just are who they are and don't try to change. Plus he's the sweetest sunshiney character I've read in a while, they always get me. I honestly loved how Finn was instantly possessive and protective of him. I'm not normally into insta-love, but this felt different from that. More like "insta-mine until I figure out my feelings, everyone else back off and don't mess with him".

The plot was somewhat predictable but I was still up late reading what was going to happen. Vivian was always saving the family from drama with her sunshiney happiness, and it allowed Finn and his father's issues to have some depth and not be rushed. The ending felt a little too good to be true, mostly how they are immediately super successful with what they wanted to do after graduation, even though they're 18/19. Maybe that happens for some people?

I'm a fan of the writing. For a debut novel I was pretty impressed and I'll definitely be reading more by this author!

DNF at 48%. No star rating - could just be my current reading mood. The flow of the story, dialog, instalove, and characters overly dramatic reactions to e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g are annoying me. It’s quite possible this actually is how teenagers react and the author has done a great job of realistically capturing them. It’s just not working for me.

i had very mixed reactions reading this book.
it starts with basically insta-love and insta-possessive (without a reason really) and generally over the top.
if you know me you know that i eat that shit up like i’m paid for it so i was honestly loving this.
but i’m a firm believer that if you want to go in that direction you have to really go for it, you can’t just start big, having your character suddenly decide that the other is his and then retreat.
it became kind of dull after a while.
and i started to loose interest.
i want possession, i want toxicity, i want over the top, this was ott-bait.

then came the misogyny. and i quote “a feminine type of friendship” a feminine what??????
then the one-dimensional characters: bad is very bad good is very good.
then it was almost childish.
then it was really predictable and everybody was dumb as fuck (and it’s concerning if me, the queen of the dumbs, says so).
so yeah, we went down hill.
the writing is quite good and i’m sure that this author can do so much better if she really goes for it.
2.5 because i loved this so much at the beginning.
