Sam Byers's "Idiopathy" left me with mixed feelings.
The chapter about maternity and the way the dialogues unfold are priceless. I laughed out loud quite a few times on my commute.
Even so, the first half of the book is so hell-bent on laying out how awful the characters are, it often feels overdone. By the time I reached their final encounter, I felt I already knew everything about their flaws and their big and small cruelties to each other. I mostly kept reading in the hope another particularly witty passage would catch my eye.
I'm unsure now whether to go on to read "Perfidious Albion", which has also been on my list for some time.
