I enjoyed The Stopover, but I LOVED The Takeover. Tristan is 👌🏻. A strong confident man without being an alpha-hole or alpha-douche. He knows that Claire is a smart, confident woman and isn’t possessive, controlling, or manipulative. He pushes for what he wants but respects boundaries.

The relationship ups and downs between Tristan and Claire as they navigate a relationship with kids, grief, egos, etc., was the perfect amount of drama and tension. Claire is a widowed mother of three imperfect boys and is trying to protect them from more grief and hurt. Tristan has finally found a relationship with meaning and wants to be an important part of their family. You can understand where each of them is coming from in their conflict without wanting to slap sense into them for being unreasonable. This isn’t a miscommunication trope (my least favourite), it’s two people learning to communicate better with each other and find a mutually beneficial resolution. You know, how a healthy relationship should work.

I like kids, but I don’t have any or want any of my own, and usually avoid books with single parents, pregnancy or anything kid related, because I don’t relate. But I loved the how the kids were written and how their relationship with Tristan developed. Also, their first meeting was hilarious (especially Fletcher, IYKYK).
When Tristan watched movies with Patrick and gave Fletcher relationship and sex advice? My heart swelled. When Tristan took Harry to the cemetery to visit Wade, or when Patrick didn’t want Tristan to leave and get hit by a drunk driver so he stayed? I teared up. When the boys wanted to move into a new house and have Tristan adopt them? I cried. When Harry and Patrick ran away and showed up at Tristan’s Paris hotel? I bawled like a baby.
Needless to say, they were a good plot addition. I think it helped that they were older (9/13/18) and the plot wasn’t “I need a new dad for my kids”.

It's three stars in the first 40% of the book because I'm not a fan of the writing style. It had a rough start but eventually, the MCs win me over when they discuss the dynamics of their relationship.

There are so many tender moments with the children that I can overlook the amount of spicy scenes that tend to be too repetitive and don't add too much to the plot. Of course, you'll suspend your disbelief when reading billionaire romance but... Two minors flying to an international country with no adult supervision is stretching it a bit too much.

Claire is the CEO of Anderson media and is struggling to keep it afloat. It was her husband's company and has been running since he passed away. On top of running her company, she is raising 3 boys by herself. Tristan is interested in taking over Anderson Media and acquiring it for Miles Media. Let's just say their first meeting did not go very well. Then they became reacquainted in Paris...

This was a cute book. Claire and Tristan had incredible chemistry. I loved the evolution of Tristan's character and the relationship he developed with the boys. He was way over his head with Claire and her boys, but he did everything he could to work to earn their trust and seamlessly integrate himself into their lives without trampling on their father's memory. The way he took them under his wing and formed such a close emotional bond with them was so beautiful. He became such a loving, caring, and selfless man. He knew exactly what he wanted and fought so hard for it.

My heart broke for Claire. She has been through so much and is so overwhelmed. She fought hard to save her company and is incredibly persistent and determined. I hated how wishy washy she was with Tristan's heart, but I also understand how torn she must have been. She was trying to find a balance between moving on and still respecting her late husband's wishes and legacy. I wish she would have taken the time to figure out exactly what she wanted before putting everyone through so much turmoil, but again, she was overwhelmed with so many conflicting emotions.

This book had me laughing out loud. Claire’s kids are hilarious and I love her house so much. It was also deep and emotional and the conversations on love after loss and grief made me sob. The single mum trope may be a new favourite of mine.
