So wasn’t sure if I was going to like it because I wanted more spice but I ended up liking it for the story line! On the 3rd book now, Love me some Thorne
Was surprised by this book, I liked it a lot. The only things I had trouble with was the main character's inability to utter a serious word. Everything out of her mouth is something sarcastic or "witty".
There isn't too much in the way of sex, it's there, and only mild. More like Kate Daniels. Although it is a big part of the relationship between the main characters. We have an opposites attract. Vampire/Slayer romance. A hint of love triangle, a bunch of situations where there is kill or be killed.
It is the first in a (so far) trilogy, the books are kind of hefty and don't really drag. That's just my opinion. A lot happens in a short period of time, but there are chapters with the heading "two months later" so it isn't like a month is being crammed in one book.
There is definite insta-love (on his side) after insta-hate (vampire/slayer). That kind of gets annoying. I was never a fan of the quick burn. Give the book a read, it's on Kindle Unlimited - the whole trilogy is, so if you have it it isn't a waste of money if you decide not to finish.
First time I read this author, so it was a total surprise. I only got it because the cover and the premise seemed good.
I am currently halfway through the second in the series.
If you can get over the heroines smart mouth you will probably enjoy the book. If you are turned off by it and are hoping it will change as the book goes on, it won't.

- Main Heroine: Isla
- Love Interests: Thorne (vampire slayer), Emrick (vampire king)
- Love Triangle? Yes
Isla is a vampire and she was born into a ruthless society of vampires who have no qualms about killing humans. She isn't necessarily a bleeding heart and doesn't always care about killing either, but her past is painted with tragedy that is a result of her family betraying her and losing everyone she loves. Now she is jaded. But after centuries of walking around hiding her emotions, she finds herself drawn to a particular vampire slayer as well as the vampire king himself.
I enjoyed this one and I really liked Isla. She reminded me a little of Alisa/Sita from The Last Vampire series by Christopher Pike. She's a little cold and unfeeling and honestly I kind of liked that about her. She's pretty badass. And from what we learn about her past, it's entirely understandable how she acts the way she does.
The book was exciting and the new lore was really interesting. I always love to see a new take on vampires. And this one was pretty cool! There's a whole budding war going on and Isla finds herself tangled up with a slayer who is too attractive and it's dangerous all around. I loved it!
What I didn't love? Well, it seems as though there's going to be a setup for a love triangle. Yikes! And after years of reading enough YA books to last me a lifetime, I am TIRED of love triangles. No thanks. Menage? Okay. Reverse Harem? Great. Love triangles where she only ends up with one of the guys? Yeah, no.
Plus, at least for now, she seems to be choosing Thorne (the slayer) which would not be my pick. I liked Emrick so much more than him! Especially since she is stronger than Thorne and I'm not a fan of the heroine being stronger than her hero. Not my thing.
So overall this was a great setup for a new and interesting vampire world. But I'm probably gonna pass on continuing because of the love triangle aspect and where her love interest seems to be leaning towards. Too bad.

Thank you Sharon J for recommending this book to me. This was an incredible read. This was a story that involved a forbidden relationship between our main character and a vampire slayer. The king of the vampires was really hot. Everything was fantastic except for how fast the romance developed. The heroine had an fantastic sense of humor. I really loved this read. The story was fantastic. I can't wait to see what happens next. Overall, an amazing read.

I was recommended to read this book but had been leery as vampire romance is usually not my thing. Well, I can say I am a convert now because good lord this book was phenomenonal.
Isla is hands down my favorite character ever. Her one liners, movie references, and snark were Hilarious. I was torn between Thorne and Emrick. I could see the pull going either way for them.
This author created a world that was so realistic that If I was to discover this book with no previous knowledgeable, I would think that vampires were real.
Seriously, my mind is blown.

I don't really know how to rate this book. 3 - 3.5 Stars? Isla was annoying AF. Arrogant, sarcastic, (I like my characters funny but she made way too many jokes and was only serious ONE time!!!) she was conceited, mean, ah I just don't even know. She said she was hot, sexy, fashionable, bad ass ENOUGH!
I liked the story, it had some good moments and I'll prolly read book two for two reasons 1.) that fucking cliffhanger and 2.) its free. However I won't say it's my favorite.

I think the beginning of the book was pretty good but the middle was terribly slow and the ending kind of left me feeling meh. This is a character-driven story but all of our mc's could have been fleshed out better. There is/was? A love triangle and it is kind of a drag to the story. Overall I'm just glad I'm done.
