Fatal Harmony is the first book in The Vein Chronicles series by Anne Malcom. I have never read anything else by this author, and what a tragedy that is! I was completely blown away by this amazing story!

Isla’s upbringing and basically her entire life story broke my heart. She has endured so much in her lifetime, and I just want her to be happy. There is social unrest amongst the members of the supernatural community, and they are throwing a wrench in her aforementioned happiness by constantly trying to kill her and those she cares about. Will they succeed?

I don’t even know where to start! I love vampire stories, and I have read plenty. This book managed to be unique to anything else I have read before, and that is no easy feat!

The world building in this book was one of my favorite things about it. I loved the vampire mythology the author came up with. These vampires aren’t your classic vamps that sleep in coffins, and they definitely don’t sparkle. Vampires are born, not made, and they can’t survive on bunny blood. Most of the vampires in this world are cold, ruthless killers. Humans are nothing more than cattle to them. The undead aren’t the only supernatural creatures in this story. Werewolves, demons, and witches are also present, however, most of the story centers around vampires and a few witches.
The absolute best thing about this story has to the heroine. Honestly, I didn’t know if I was going to like Isla, because she can be cold and thoughtless at times. I was so happy to be wrong. She isn’t a perfect angel, but who is really? Isla can be arrogant and insensitive, but also kind, strong, hilarious, loyal, and selfless. The woman dresses to the nines, kicks ass, saves innocent people, and always does what she thinks is right regardless of how much of an outcast that makes her. Her friends are just as complex and endearing as she is, and her love interests, the slayer, Thorne, and the vampire king, Emrick, are both sexy alpha males that would make any woman swoon.

Overall, Fatal Harmony is a phenomenal read! The story is captivating, unique, and action packed! I wish that the sex scenes were a little more detailed, but other than that the only thing that I didn’t like was that it ended. It is expertly written, well-paced, and full of humor. The characters are multidimensional, and the world building is top notch! If you like paranormal romance or urban fantasy, this is one you don’t want to miss!
*disclaimer* I wrote this while very sick today, so I apologize if there are any glaring grammatical errors or if this makes no sense in places! Lol

Hot and cold
I loved this book in some places with its snappy dialogue and imagery. I absolute adored the main character. But it dragged and felt both disorganized and repetitive and then did that lazy, "two months later..." thing at the end. I won't pick up the next book.

Holy crap that ending! I am so glad I already have Deathless cued up to read...
Vamp stories aren't my thing. Honestly I've never read one because I just wasn't Interested. Being a BIG fan of Anne Malcom's, Vein Chronicles were the only books I hadn't read I decided to read the free sample from Amazon. I was hooked in the first 2 chapters and went back and 1-clicked both books. I adore a strong heroine and what's not to love about a hot Alpha? Isla is the perfect kick booty, snarky, high heel wearing girl. She made me laugh, kept me entertained to say the least, and even warmed my heart with her cold one.

I really wanted to like this. I even finished it, FFS! But I rolled my eyes SO MUCH at the cheesiness and got whiplash from the bouts of ‘I don’t run, ‘I ran,’ ‘we can’t be together,’ ‘we’re meant for each other,’ ‘I don’t care about anything,’ ‘let me go on a five-minute monologue about how enlightened humans and love are’ nonsense. Oof.
I had mixed feelings about this when I got to about 45% and I almost gave up on it. It was the reviews on here that made me persevere on it and actually I'm pretty glad I did!
Very unique take on vamps and having copper as their downfall and temples as the place to kill them.
Isla is our main h, being a sassy, sarcastic, wise cracking, fashionista almost 500yr old vamp. It takes a while to realise that this is all obviously a heavy front to what is actually a calm, emotionally scarred, young and worried woman.
It would have been nice to dial it down sometimes- it got a bit grating to have a witty redictable response come from her.
The king was interesting. I have to say I had hoped for him and Isla and not completely writing it out...
Thorne. Interesting. WHAT is he?? A bit Romeo and Juliet starcrossed lovers thing going on. It's surprising how long tge y fly under the radar with who they are and who specifically Isla is doing undercover work for. Especially as she is from one of the vein lines.....
As I said I nearly stopped reading at about 45%....it just dropped. I really did have to force myself to pick it up. It DID pick back up but it was a trek. It's cos of this I'm not heading onto book 2 right away. I need a "refresher book" or 2 to cleanse the palate so to speak!! Just something easy to read but I think I will be back...
I need to find out what Thorne is...and if anything will happen with the king ....!

I had to DNF at 42%.
I really REALLY tried with this one but it just wasn’t doing it for me. The writing felt blocky and hard to read and I am so confused with the story line. Just not for me!

This was okay, nothing new in the genre of paranormal urban romance.
So this is definitely a new perspective for vampires I haven’t considered and I absolutely loved it. Isla is freaking hilarious and to be honest a complete full of her self bitch, but just like the storyline I love it. She does what she wants when she wants and I enjoy it quite bit. Of course she would want the one person she can’t or shouldn’t have, the oh so hot slayer who is more than he seems. While the king of the vamps clearly has the hots for her too. I love a good romance with sex and murder but what I want in a book is some action that doesn’t completely revolve around that romance and this book delivers. With a battle between vampires threatening to destroy the human race and witches, demons, and werewolves to boot this story is more than just another paranormal romance and can’t wait to dive into book 2!
