3.5 stars - really enjoyed this one. The return of Walter & Evelyn and the introduction of David. A turning point in the series as the children grow up and begin to take on a more prominent role.

This series has gotten pretty stale in this book. Not much felt new.

Another exciting adventure from the lives of Amelia and Radcliffe Emerson. I can't say this one is my favorite, but there were some definite high points. After the sad beginning, I'm so glad that Walter and Evelyn were tricked into joining them in Egypt - they deserved and needed some adventure in their lives, to remind them of how they fell in love, and how much they still love each other. David is an intriging boy, and it will be interesting to see how his character develops, and how he might change the dynamic between Nefret and Ramses. Speaking of the two rascals, Ramses and Nefret can be rather frustrating, with their propensity of taking everything into their own hands and thinking they can solve everything by themselves. The main parts I found tedious in this book were Miss Marmaduke (really? You think Nefret is a reincarnated Egyptian Queen?) and the reappearance of Bertha. What an obnoxious woman. I'm hoping she's gone for good, but that doesn't seem likely. Also, I am sad that it seems Sethos might actually be dead. Yes, he was a murdering criminal, but he did have charm and panache, and he loved Amelia in his own way. Oh well.

I love this series a lot. It's full of hilarious characters and archaeological adventure and incredibly clever cats. The whole thing is totally ridiculous, yes - Amelia is an inadvertently hilarious character who often doesn't realise just how over the top she's being - but it's SO MUCH FUN.

This one was rather tamer than others, with no murders involved and instead a hunt for dodgy antique dealers and forgers in Luxor. But it's still a lot of fun, features the return of some characters that have been sadly missing for a while, and is totally silly but also really enjoyable reading.

Definitely not intellectual reading, but a series worth checking out regardless.

David finally enters the picture. This book marks the beginning of all the crazy schemes and adventures David, Ramses, and Nefret will have together.
