Woww

Another fantastic read by Stephen King. More of a love story than anything. I bought the Kindle edition which came with a 12-minute video of Stephen King talking about the history of the JFK assassination which was pretty cool.

What a masterpiece! King is able to seamlessly blend historical fiction and science fiction in this story about time travel. The characters in this book are charming, likable, and extremely relatable. We get an up close and personal glimpse of what life was like in mid-century America.

For most people, the length of this book is a big deterrent for attempting to jump on this wild ride of a story, but do not fear! This book reads like book half its length, and for me, that is quite a compliment. I have never read any Stephen King books before, but I can understand now why he is such a prolific writer.

I had the audiobook read by Craig Wasson who is excellent, he certainly added to my enjoyment.

Jake Epping an English teacher in 2011 is introduced to time travel. What if he could change a monumental time in history? That being the assassination of JFK.

Jake /George has multiple fact finding visits to 1958 where he accumulates the knowledge that he needs. As always with King it’s very character driven, the characters are so well crafted. George is very likeable, I was totally invested in his life, loved that he wasn’t above a little grifting using knowledge from the present to finance his life in the past. The reader isn’t just given a history lesson here, we are immersed in it. There’s emotional episodes along the way, but can’t say more.
It’s a big investment in time over 30 hours, so you need to get drawn into George’s world for this to work for you. With this time span you can no doubt guess that the book covers a lot of ground.

I really enjoyed this, I found the ending satisfying. The authors note demonstrates his extensive research into what is a work of fiction based around the actual event.
