It's a really good book, definitely very fast paced, has a bit of a sad ending but not too much
Of course it is Colfer so I liked it, and the series has been my read-15-times childhood fave but these last three... I just haven't liked nearly as much as the first five. I don't know, maybe you begin to know a style so well that it gets predictable?
This beautiful, smart, funny series has been such a pleasure reading over the years.

I absolutely love this series, and cannot believe the ride is over. Nothing like Opal Koboi to try and take over the world...again. What an evil pixie.
Great cast of characters, and a really fun read. I must admit, some emotional estrogen-based female feeling came over me and I actually shed a tear towards the end. gee-whiz, I feel all girly now... ugh.
If you have not picked up this series, then please do so. My kids got me hooked, then I surpassed them!

The Artemis Fowl series was something that I grew up with and, with this being the final book, I find myself left unsatisfied. There's nothing wrong with this one per say and, were it a single novel publication, I'd probably give it a higher rating. However, this is the final book in a series and must be reviewed as such.
So why does it fail as a final chapter? Well, it all boils down to two main points:
Issue 1: Loose Ends from the Other Books
Questions from the first 7 books never get answered. Things that a lot of fans were waiting for never happened and little things that should have been wrapped up weren't. Along the same lines, you'll find that beloved characters that have been around since book one fail to make even a cameo appearance. That's true for locations as well because this thing takes place almost entirely on the Fowl estate with no trips into the fairy world or even other parts of the human world. All of that comes together to leave readers feeling rather let down. This is our last trip to this world and we don't really get to say goodbye.
Issue 2: Lack of Finality for Artemis' character
This is, quite possibly, the least character driven of all eight books. Books 1-7 saw Artemis growing in some way and, while action was a huge part of the story, there was always a lot of subtext about Artemis becoming a better person. One could arguably say that the series' overarching subplot was Artemis' transformation into a good person so one would expect the final book to showcase just how far he's come which is sort of does, book one Artemis wouldn't be doing the stuff he does here and actions supposedly speak louder than words, but I really wanted some heartfelt dialog about how much he's changed! [b:The Opal Deception|114954|The Opal Deception (Artemis Fowl, #4)|Eoin Colfer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1266475201s/114954.jpg|1537541] was a better wrap-up to Artemis' character growth than this novel.
A lot of these flaws can be chalked up to Colfer's 3 year hiatus from the series. It's pretty clear that his attachment and connection to these characters took a serious hit during his time away and, while the hiatus made sense for his career (he was writing a commissioned book and had a set deadline) Artemis and the gang suffered as a result. It leaves one to wonder what would have happened had books 7 & 8 followed directly after book 6.

I have read this series to my kids and couldn't not read this one just for the sake of the series!

شاید بهتر بود که آرتمیس فاول توی "معمای زمان " تموم میشد .
به نظرم آرتمیس فاول نمونه یکی از مجموعه هایی بود که تا قله رفت و بعد سقوط کرد . شاید بتونه به نویسنده ها بفهمونه وقتی برنامه ای برای ادامه یه مجموعه ندارن ، لزومی نداره کشش بدن و خاطرات جلد های قبلی رو هم خراب کنند .
آخرین جلد آرتمیس فاول ( اگر واقعا آخرینش باشه و آقای کالفر در آینده دوباره به سرش نزنه که کتاب نهم رو هم منتشر کنه ! ) کتاب چندان خوبی نیست . گره های داستان خیلی راحت و بی مقدمه باز میشن . به نظرم نویسنده نتونسته وخامت اوضاع رو به خوبی در بیاره . با اینکه تم مشکلاتی که که توی این داستان هست خیلی وخیم تر و جدی تر و بی رحمانه تر از مسائل داستان های قبلیه ولی من خواننده حس میکردم دارم ماجراجویی آرتمیس در یک ماجرای معمولی ، از همون جنس ماجرا جویی های قبلی رو میخونم . متن کتاب جوری نوشته شده که انتظاری جز موفقیت آرتمیس نداری . با وجود همه تفکر های ناامید کننده ای که نویسنده سعی میکنه به خواننده القا کنه . یک مقایسه ای میکنم با جلد آخر " دموناتا " ی دارن شان که توی اون فصل های آخر واقعا واقعا از موفقیت گروبز و کرنل ناامید میشی . اون صحنه ای که بک رو توی جبهه حریف میبینند قشنگ خواننده رو متقاعد میکنه جای هیچ امیدواری نیست . ولی "آخرین نگهبان" با اینکه سعی میکنه به خواننده بقبولونه که آرتمیس و کلا جهان این دفعه جون سالم به در نمیبره ، باز هم موفق نیست . یک بخش عمده ایش هم به خاطر نحوه روایته . مثلا در آغاز فصل شش نویسنده مینویسه :
" ... این ها را مدیر فرودگاه شاتل تارا، وقتی دوران معالجه اش را پشت سر گذاشت در گزارشش با عنوان واقعه استثنایی نوشت ... "
این یعنی این ماجرا هم ختم به خیر میشه که مدیر فرودگاه تحت درمان میگیره و میتونه کتابی از اون واقعه بنویسه .
- با آرتمیس فاول خاطرات نسبتا خوبی دارم و از ماجرا های قبلیش لذت بردم . اینکه دو جلد " معمای آتلانتیس " و " آخرین نگهبان " نتونست منو به خودشون جذب کنه شاید به خاطر اینه که بین آرتمیس خوانی هام فاصله افتاده یا شاید انتظاراتم از مجموعه بالا بوده یا در نظر من آرتمیس توی همون کتاب شش تموم شده . همون کتابی که تا مدتی نویسنده کتاب آخر مجموعه میدونست .
- نمره این کتاب میتونست چهار باشه به شرطی که فصل آخر کتاب وجود نداشت . اگه کتاب توی همون فصل یکی مونده به آخر تموم میشد میتونستم بگم با اینکه کتاب چندان خوبی نبود ولی پایانش از اون جنس پایان هایی بود که من خیلی دوست دارم .
- بی شک یکی از نقاط قوت مجموعه آرتمیس تیکه های کلامی و کل کل های هالی شورت و باتلر و آرتمیس و به خصوص مالچ و فلی بود . چیزی که توی این کتاب به حداقل رسیده بود . با این حال مالچ توی همون چند صحنه هم که وارد داستان شد به نظرم جذاب ترین کاراکتر بود .
+ اهمیت آرتمیس فاول برای من در این بود که تعریفی متفاوت از دورف ها و گابلین ها و الف ها ارائه داد . . ویژگی های جذاب و متفاوت با آنچیزی که از این موجودات از ارباب حلقه ها و نارنیا در ذهن داشتم
- توی صفحه 117 نسخه فارسی کتاب گندالف رو شخصیتی از کتاب های هری پاتر ! ارباب حلقه ها و هابیت میدونه ! نمیدونم اون پرانتز کار نویسنده بوده یا مترجم ، در هر حال خیلی ضایعه .
پی نوشت : الان که ریویو ی دوستام رو میخونم میبینم بیشترشون از این کتاب راضی بودن . نمیدونم . شاید از سن من گذشته .

So very satisfying. A more than fitting conclusion to an incredibly imaginative series.
