This was such a fascinating “investigative journalism” take on a memoir the author had no memory of. I was fascinated by it and appreciate the importance of spreading the word about this rare disease.

A fascinating account of how Susannah experienced an illness that nearly went undiagnosed and how her family fought to get her well.
This was very engaging to read, Susannah explained what happened to her, how it was treated eventually, but also how others go untreated or misdiagnosed.
The chapters are short and easy to follow and kept me interested throughout.

A family friend was just diagnosed with encephalitis and another friend is in the ICU getting neuro checks every few hours. To say this book hit close to home is a massive understatement.
This was an easy read, but was informative and deep. I also enjoyed the writing style; the author is a New York Post journalist, and this book is her first-hand experience of encephalitis caused by a rare autoimmune disease.

Wow! What a story! Susannah's story about her illness is captivating and intense. She's very honest about her experience even when it's not a pretty picture and even hard to hear. Her family's love and support was also moving.
3.5 realistically. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I thought the pacing and overall exploration of experience was well done. I just don’t know that it meets the criteria of some of the 4 and 5 star books I’ve read. Still would recommend it to others!

Susannah Cahalan’s terrifying medical scare is a reminder of how we truly know so little about the human body and medicine is at its core a practice. If you’re looking for an interesting medical drama type of memoir, this one definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and had me rooting for Susannah.

Fascinating firsthand perspective on Anti-NMDAR encephalitis, seizures and the healthcare system. I can’t believe it took me this long to finally read this one.
