This was a fascinating read. Well written and detailed without being overlong, the author did a great job capturing her decent into a madness that her doctors had a hard time explaining. It was scary to see how easily she could've been lost... it was only finding the right doctor armed with the right information that finally led to a real diagnosis and chance to get better. I found all the tests and medical information really interesting, even though I hadn't expected the book to be so clinical. Worth the read/listen. I listened on Audible and thought the narrator did a great job, especially having to say "anti-NMDA-receptor encephalitis" so many times.

A great example of the way that our privatized medical system is designed to let people slip through the cracks, and a testament to how important it is to have people to advocate for you when you can’t advocate for yourself. Very excited to read her next book!

After reading this book, the hypochondriac in me is grateful to know the existence of this disease, in case it happens to me and I need a doctor to look into it.
I’m sorry she had to go through this. My mom was misdiagnosed for a long time, and by the time we finally got an accurate diagnosis, we had only three weeks left together. So I know a little about this, even though my mom’s disease was something entirely different. As such, my compassion meter was very high on this one.
