First thoughts when starting this book "wow everyone is so cruel" > the story really does it's name honour. But wow, this was such a good book! I've always been a sucker for fantasy books, and this one really fit in with what I lean towards. 

I did find some of the plot twists and secrets kind of predictable
Taryn and Lock dating, Oak's real heritage
 

Yet I still really enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to continue on with the next book in this series!

Lovely fairy word building and intriguing political plot. i didn’t love the writing style - first person pov, often simple.
