I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did. I just felt like, following the high fantasy I have been reading, this fell kinda flat, the world is childish, though sweet and lovable, and despite wanting a strong FMC, I got Jude, who I hope will get better and better, if I decide to read on.

I wanted to like this more than I ended up liking it, and I found it incredibly mid. I feel like I was kind of hate reading it past a certain point. It really does take the first half of the book for things to start happening. I found most of the main cast unlikable and one dimensional but also the drama is so over the top I felt like I was gawking at a really slow moving train that just can’t, despite all logic, figure out how to stop. I will still probably read the other books because the world is interesting and there were a few of the support characters that I felt had potential so I want to give the rest of the books a fair chance.
