An eye-opening history of the United States from an Indigenous viewpoint. I'm appalled at the amount of information here that was new to me, from enlightened Indigenous land-management techniques scorned by European settlers, to the way that the genocidal wars against Native nations formed and still inspire U.S. militarism and nationalism.  This should be required reading, especially for my generation of Boomers who grew up on a history that both denigrated and romanticized Indigenous people and a vision of a modern United States where they had been effectively erased.

Wow, what an excellent read that challenges the way we think and live as white people and people who  benefit from a colonizing United States. This book really proves that everything is and always will be connected. This was particularly interesting and reflective for me as a veteran. I cannot recommend this book enough for folks who want to learn about indigenous history, colonization, and a hope for a free future

This book was gut-wrenchingly informative and meticulously well researched and presented. Reading this, I couldn't help but question my education and everything I've been taught about my country and its origins having grown up as an American.

This book reminded me of the importance of humanity and how frequently throughout history the United States of America has lacked it.

This was a really eye-opening book about the indigenous people of this country. I knew we (white Americans/colonizers) had screwed them over before I read this book, but I didn't realize *how* baked into everything anti-Indian ideas are, and how many people who are lauded as heroes had a role in their genocide, well beyond Andrew Jackson. Hard read. Important.
