I absolutely adore Dolly. She is one of my favorite writers of all time, and to this day, “Ghosts” is a personal favorite book of mine.
While I found the writing and voice in “Dear Dolly” to be incredible - she is such a breathtakingly skilled storyteller, managing to write with so much empathy and personality that you feel like you are speaking with a big sister or friend - the book itself just didn’t resonate with me as much as her others.
I think if I had read this in my late teens or early 20s, I would have walked away with more value. But with my life in order now (at least for the most part), having become familiar with who I am, and being in a happy marriage with the stress of dating behind me, I didn’t have as much of a stake in many of the questions being asked.
Also, between us, I’m not going to lie, some of Dolly’s advice was a bit questionable in my opinion…
While the writing itself was beautiful, I don’t believe I was the target audience for this book.

life wisdom for the 30s (and 40s?). right reading at the right timing for me.

Dolly Alderton doesn’t realize she’s my best friend. Side note: this book MUST be listened to on audio with Dolly narrating.
funny
lighthearted
medium-paced
Dolly Alderton could publish her grocery list and I would buy it, read it and rate it 5 stars.
