This book is a slow burn but once you get half way it speeds up rapidly! I didn’t expect to be ugly crying the last 20% of it

It’s been a while since an epic fantasy book made me feel hopeful about its strength. The way this book built the land and the lore, the manner in which it went darker and bloodier with each page, feels quite reminiscent of game of thrones, or wheel of time. Only qualm I have with the book is that it lacks in describing the physical characteristics of the characters which made it harder to picture them. Otherwise a very solid first book that sets up everything quite well. Excellent pace and strong characters who are all morally questionable.
