Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay

Well crafted story with plenty of interesting twists. Believable characters and interesting because slightly out of the ordinary (used car salesmen, marginally deadbeat teens, small time criminals). Suffered from slow pacing. Lots of time spent on getting to know characters that seemed pretty well drawn in their first few appearances in the story. Much seemed extraneous and could have been tightened by 10-20%.

This book was really good. I would've liked more info at the end, but it was a thriller. Linwood Barclay is writing some really great books. Starting to remind me of Harlan Coben.

Another excellent read by Linwood Barclay. Suspenseful, thrilling, I really enjoy his books.

Really good book. I wish there wasn't the plot line of the detective. It was annoying

Barclay definitely follows a pattern: pick an issue--in this case human trafficking--then making it a backdrop for the "I've got to save my daughter/son/wife" storyline. As a former reporter, it makes sense that he would know how to take an issue and personalize it. But even though the pattern itself gets old, his storytelling is solid, and it was an enjoyable read.

This book was a gift from a friend. It had an interesting premise, but it started really slow and spent too much time dealing with minutiae as to grab my attention from the beginning. By the time I was almost half done with the books, the pace started speeding up and the fast action got more interesting. But then the author rushed the ending and I got disappointed again. Overall, quite the rollercoaster read.

Recommended for a lazy weekend or a long flight, but don’t expect a masterpiece.

I am a big fan of Linwood Barclay.

A storyline that is gripping from the beginning. Tim's daughter doesn't come home after a shift at work but when he goes to investigate, no one at the hotel she works at, recognizes her. She doesn't work there. So, where is she? And where has she been going if not to work?

This is a great book with lots of twists right until the very end. The characters and even their relationships with each other are very well written. The gripping turmoil of a parent experiencing their child missing is exhibited well throughout the book and I couldn't wait to find out what had happened. A definite page turner and a very well written story.

I would absolutely recommend this book if you are looking for a fast-paced mystery. I may read this again in the future however I also have other Barclay books on my bookshelf too.
