Horror is admittedly not one of my go to genres, but wow am I glad I picked this one up. There were twists I did not expect at all and it held my interest late into the night because I couldn’t put it down.

A detective story meets The Hazel Wood... but for adults. The first half is all build-up and subtleties, but no answers. The second half is all answers, whether you want them or not.

I started off loving it, then really fell off right before the third act. It got quite long and much more fantasy/sci-fi than I expected. It also seemed a bit YA at times?

The novel feels like a muted progenitor of a novel I just read (and loved) called Starling House by Alix E.Harrow. All in all, I did enjoy most of Malice House. It has some great gothic vibes and those with more of a palette for fantasy and sci-fi will get a lot from it.

One of the best horror stories I've read in a long time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys horror with a gothic creative edge. I loved everything about this novel.

A more indepth review to come.

Damn. Though there was a twist very similar to one in
SpoilerThe Madman's Daughter
. Megan Shepherd loves her monsters. And I love Megan Shepherd.
