It had action-packed pacing, short chapters, a quick start, ever increasing tension, and minor and major twists that felt neat, and with only minimal hinting at thru the story. It was very creepy but I never felt truly scared.

The messages the story is conveying about
generational
revenge and disrespecting others for entertainment actually worked well together.

The characters were relatable and likeable I think that if the characters were more fleshed out, or the writing more punchy, then I may have rated this higher. But I still enjoyed for what it was and would recommend it to younger readers.

This was a pretty good book. It wasn't super predictable, it kept you guessing. I'm not sure I really liked the twist and where it went though.
The narrator did a really good job making each person easy to identify by voice. But the characters weren't necessarily likable, not solely because of the narrator but because of the way they were written. Sam's parents certainly weren't likable.
Overall it kept me engaged and I enjoyed it.

Everyone had secrets, including Sam and his friends, so every year on Halloween, they ventured into the Dark Place to unburden themselves of their pasts. When the truth comes to light, they'll find themselves questioning their friendships, but sometimes it's not your secrets that will come back to haunt you.

I was not expecting the plot twist, and I really want there to be a future sequel following Sam's new quest. Either way, it's a great story and will forever be a fall read for me.
