Trigger warning for this book: Rape! Yeah, it’s a rape book, y’all.

Oh man. I laughed, I cried, it moved me, Bob.
I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself, but reading books that are about women working to get their lives back after any form of sexual abuse is one of my favorite things. Did I cry from relief at one point? Absolutely! Did I call a certain rapist several very rude names? Again, absolutely. And do I know that I’m going to be worn out tomorrow at work because I stayed up late reading this book? Abso-freaking-lately.

This is the story of two women who meet really almost accidentally (I say almost because there are no accidents). They are instantly attracted to each other. One is a psychiatrist who works with women who have been raped, the other is a sexual crimes detective. When the psychiatrist is raped, our lovely detective steps into help her get back on her feet. And they might just fall in love while they’re at it? You know, romance novel and all, it might just happen.

I spent the first half of this book shaking, nearly in tears. Jae did such a good job showing the trauma a victim feels. If only more authors truly understood how sexually abused women (and men) feel! This needs more representation!

TW/CW: rape, physical violence, weapons, graphic descriptions

This book was amazing! I started to dive into the world of F/F romances fairly recently, so I don't really have favorite authors yet. But after reading this one I'd definetely would pick up another of Jae's books.
I went into this one blind and I'm glad I did, because I would pick it up much, much later. There are so many hard topics, that author resolves brilliantly through her characters.
