This book is co written by the hosts of the very popular podcast, My Favorite Murder. I have tried to listen to that podcast, but the CONSTANT use of the F bomb is off-putting to me. The book is filled with them too, but that's somehow easier for me to handle. Interesting, can be read in one sitting!
This is a really neat book for diehard Murderinos to get a big kick out of. For me, as much as I love the podcast, I didn't get the same enjoyment out of reading a book version of it. I would much rather just listen to them simultaneously talk to each other and thousands of people at the same time.
"Everyone has their own problems. Some of them are awful and tragic and if you knew what they were, you’d be grateful for the ones that you have."
I definitely recommend the audio version of Stay Sexy narrated by the authors and some of which was recorded in front of a live audience. It added some energy and nuance I’m not sure I would have picked up on were I reading rather than listening. In addition to the laugh-out-loud moments, this book also had some surprisingly good advice. For example:
~ "…be honest with yourself. The problems you have are yours. No matter who came into play before, during, or after, you are the common denominator…. This is not to say that you’re always to blame for what happens to you—that would be dumb, and mean, and kind of Republican."
~ "Don’t be a dick and do good things."
~ "Don’t throw your shit all over town. If you have a problem, don’t just confide in whoever wanders into your office. Save it for a person who cares about your well-being."
~ "Fuck politeness. Fuck the way we were socialized. Fuck the expectation that we always put other people’s needs first. And while we’re at it, fuck the patriarchy!"

If you’re a Murderino, you’ll love it. If you don’t know what that is, you may be surprised to learn it’s you! Or not. Either way, this tome has it all: checklists, cautionary tales, jokes, blue country geese, moments of true vulnerability. I recommend the audio for a little off book material (including giggles) and live performances. And everyone’s favorite Paul, Mr. Giamatti.

There were a few gems in here and chapters I couldn’t stop reading, but my overall opinion of this book was that it’s ok.
I am a huge MFM fan, but sadly I didn't love this book as much as I thought I would. It read a bit too much like a self-help book, when really I was hoping for a chill conversation about murder with two awesome ladies. Still happy to support them in all they do!
A hilarious and openly vulnerable look into the lives of two of my favorite podcasters. I truly loved all the life lessons these ladies have learned and taught.
It can really be hard to find people who match your level of obsession with special interests (especially true crime) but when you do they become someone you can connect with on a whole other level. For Karen and Georgia that level was a podcast that would bring together thousands of people from across the world.
Despite the generational differences between myself and these ladies I'm glad to know that reading Stephen King at way to young an age and being obsessed with true crime, while yes a bit macabre, can truly lead you to great places.

I enjoy reading 1 and 2 star reviews. The reviews for this book had me a little concerned. But once you get past the conversational tone of writing it's good. It's nothing ground breaking, there isn't really any true crime nor much life advice. But all the same, it's enjoyable.
Hobbies include: Getting emotional and sometimes crying real tears over Karen and Georgia’s friendship, and wishing that I, too, were friends with them.
