I loved this book and can’t wait for the series to continue. These main characters had such great chemistry from the start, but in a realistic way.
Anytime the characters communicate well and avoid a long dramatic 3rd act breakup is a solid win

LET ADRIANA HERRERA WRITE ALL THE HISTORICAL ROMANCE!!! But seriously, this is so steeped in our female MC's badassery, with a romance that doesn't get in the way, but rather enhances her character. I adore the way Herrera writes Evan as being ridiculously in love with Luz Alana from the spot, but not in an overly possessive way.  The plot is a biitt more focused on Evan than Luz Alana, which I wasn't a huge fan of, but I liked the way their relationship conflict resolves. And you know, the steam isn't so bad either.

Yes my reading friends, your eyes are not deceiving you. I have given a historical romance FIVE STARS. Adriana Herrera has broken the mold and blown up the historical romance myth that the only people living their best lives in 19th century Europe were white and British. Black and brown people were traveling back and forth across the Atlantic. The engaged in trade and diplomacy. They attended balls. They created art. (I LOVED how Adriana referenced so many 19th century Latinx artists – writers, composers, painters.) I LOVED that Adriana did not shy away from the elephant in the room in historical romance genre – how all those titled Englishmen got rich to begin with. I LOVED how this book is full of BIPOC and queer characters just living their best lives, and not one of them is a plot device or someone’s token friend. And then there is Luz Alana herself. Apollo said it best – “Caribbean women will turn your life upside down in mere hours . . . Once you’ve been bitten there is no cure.” Y’all better get ready for Luz Alana because she is the complete opposite of the stereotypical dainty English rose that needs to be rescued by a man. She is a badass in the “boardroom” and does not hesitate to ask for what she wants in the bedroom. And what she wants, is some steamy s*x with a Scottish Earl. 🔥🔥🔥

Last, but not least, I NEED to know more about the other two leonas, Manuela and Aurora. Books two and three cannot come fast enough.
