Well, I've had to call it a day at the halfway point. I guess I'm just not going to get along with fantasy after all.
This book just doesn't really go anywhere...or at least it takes it's own sweet time about it.
The characters are bland and two dimensional.
And I'm sorry but "show don't tell!"
I'm sure all fantasy can't be this uninteresting, but it's going to take me a long time to get over this enough to try another.
I have Skyward by Brandon Sanderson on my to read shelf, let's hope he can peak my interest a little more with my favoured sci-fi.
Thanks for reading my review, I hope it was helpful. But, please remember, this is simply my take on this book and you may have a completely different opinion.
How I select a star rating for each book is explained in my profile.

As usual, Brandon kept me thoroughly engaged. The last part of the book kept me unable to put the book down. Perhaps not my favorite Sanderson book, but it is definitely up there.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In the past, I’ve always been a little intimidated by Sanderson books because high fantasy can be a struggle for me to get through sometimes. Turns out, I shouldn’t have worried. The author’s writing style is easy to read and has a nice flow which allows you to slide right into the story.
I really flew through this one and read it in just a few days time.
It had great humour and lots of banter which was very entertaining. The world building of Elantris itself was amazingly done as well.
The concept was so original and well thought out, there wasn’t a single passage where I got bored and had trouble focusing.
However, as much as I loved it, I couldn’t get past the fact that the female characters were severely underdeveloped and could’ve played a much bigger role.
All in all, I still can’t believe this was one of his earlier works. It was my first Sanderson book but definitely not my last.
I think his other series have the potential to be 5 star reads for me. But for now, this one was a solid 4 stars!
(I read this book for the Moonie book club run by G (@book_roast) on Patreon.)
TW: death, drug addiction (mentioned), epidemic, hanging (mentioned), murder, slavery, suicide (mentioned), violence
