This collection has two stories that are basically standard X-Files stories where Hellboy and his colleagues hunt down the weird creatures and phenomena.

But true meat of this book is Occult Intelligence series - in it professor Bruttenholm comes across the evidence that there is parallel occult Cold War going on and that B.P.R.D's place in it is not what he expects because it is not only enemies behind the Iron Curtain that B.P.R.D gets in conflict with.

Very interesting story-line that makes the history of B.P.R.D that much more interesting.

Recommended to all fans of Hellboy universe.

First story was meh. Second story, didn’t like the art at all, and fighting mutated animals from enkeletite is boring. Third story was ok, but it always feels clumsy when hellboy writers try to tackle racism.

Series: Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. #4
Rating:4 stars - It was really good

In this volume, Hellboy deals with demons, giant creatures, spontaneous human combustion, and a weapon at an Air Force base.

This was another great collection of Hellboy stories. I am really enjoying these early stories of Hellboy and his B.P.R.D. team. I really enjoy Agent Woodrow “Woody” Farrier and his determination to encounter a cryptid. I just love that Woody is actively trying to find monsters when most agents are hope for something normal.

Susan Xiang is becoming more interesting with each passing volume. Her abilities are growing and I really can’t wait to see how she will be able to use them in the future. Hellboy is wonderful as always. He does his usual punch first and asks questions later. I do love that he was determined to put down a racist asshole in his place and really wish he had punched him.

Overall, this is a really fun series with a lot of little mini missions that are slowly leading to a larger plot line. I am very interested in seeing what the enkeladite is being used for.

Trigger Warnings: racism
