I ate this book up! It was so fun, I love all the characters. The only thing I didn’t totally enjoy was the smut… but that is not the books fault! I just personally don’t enjoy smut. I prefer pining.
I think the book did a good job letting you figure things just before the character does. So you feel smart, but also don’t feel frustrated at the character for being slow to figure things out.
And of course, who doesn’t love dragons?

Summary: Fourth Wing follows Violet Sorrengail, a scribe by training turned dragon rider cadet thanks to her mother, a General at Basgiath War College. Her journey to ride or die brings a surprising romance with a sworn enemy of her mother, Xaden Riorson, after she bonds to the dragon mated to Xaden’s dragon tethering their lives to one another. As their year progresses, secrets are unveiled that expand beyond the War College which change Violet’s life forever.

What I loved:
-The dragons. I love them all, but I have a special place in my heart for Andarna
-Xaden and Violet’s romance. I love them so much and their spicy scenes were well done
-The plot twists. The foreshadowing throughout the book was well done and some of the things said early in Fourth Wing reflect back into Iron Flame.
-Liam. *still crying*
-The foreshadowing. Writing this after reading Iron Flame, there was so much intentionality in the writing of this book that makes a re-read after reading book 2 a whole new adventure.

What I hated:
-Dain existed.
-We didn’t get to spend as much time with the dragons as I would have liked.
-World building was a bit lacking, but acceptable given this is book 1 of 5.

Favorite quotes: (there’s too many to include them all…)
“Should I get the Wingleader?” - Tairn
“I will not die today.” - Violet Sorrengail
“You look all frail and breakable, but you’re really a violent little thing, aren’t you?” - Xaden Riorson
“It’s been. My honor.” - Liam Mairi
“The right way isn’t the only way.” - Xaden Riorson

This book had me giggling like a little teenager. I was re-reading passages over and over to experience them again. Haven’t read a book like this in years.

‘Oh. Gods.
I’m tethered to Xaden Riorson’

I knew it was gonna be a wild ride after that.

This was my first time reading a fantasy genre book since my teen years. This story about strength, love, friendship, and complex family relationships was great! Violet is a character that embodies female confidence and independence. With everyone rooting against her, she strives even harder to continue on and outwit everyone with her knowledge. I took off a star because it was hard for me to keep track of the many many characters and confusing aspects of this book. I was constantly needing to google random words: signet, parapet, venin, wyvern, citadel, dais, etc etc. I know this is a whole other world that Yarros created, but it got really hard to follow at times. I also LOVE Andarna 🥹 she was the cutest little added element of the story that I needed. And I must say, I usually hate awkward love stories / enemies to lovers cringey tropes, BUT not Xaden and Violet. Their chemistry was amazing and I was literally giggling smiling and kicking my feet whenever they kissed or hooked up 🤭🤭🤭 The cliffhanger has me READY to read Iron Flame!!!! Overall, 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and a good book for readers wanting to dabble into fantasy.

I’m so glad the love triangle didn’t last long and I LOVE the dragons. I can’t wait to learn more about them and the world in the next book.

A great book, i can only recommend it. It was always exciting to read, great plot twists and character development. Of course with some drama.
I loved reading about the dragons, how they interact with their rider and how they generally behave. Love Tairn and Andarna (Xaden of course too). I couldn’t put the book out of my hands and i will immediately continue with “Iron Flame”. I can’t wait.
