Reads like a YA novel with spicy scenes.  I'm a fan of YA dystopia so it was fine with me but more avid fantasy readers might find it distracting or unnecessary.  Some of the book contained jargon or phrases that seem out of place in a fantasy world that took me out of the story.  Is this a future word of Earth, past, or somewhere else?  All in all it's a fast paced adventure romance that I enjoyed & will definitely read sequels.

Enemies-to-lovers, lovable characters, magical abilities, DRAGONS. What more could a guy ask for? This book was amazing. Most of the characters were so easy to love and the ones that weren't were designed to be hated. The side characters didn't feel cheap, it was easy to see their personalities shine through the text. The MC had a fun personality, she'd often make me smile or laugh.

The story itself was interesting. I found myself excited to find out more details as the plot unraveled. It was good, there were times when I HAD to read another chapter before returning to regular life. I'm definitely going to read the next book.

I loved it so much. It was a great book. It started out slow with the lore dumping but it was definitely worth sticking with after a few days!

Okay wow…this book starts off giving me strong divergent meets Harry Potter meets GOT fanfiction. Then develops some of its own flavor as the action heats up (!!!) and we get a sense for the individuality of the characters. But I was totally lost with some of the
fantasy characters that get written into the dragon battle in the later half of the book, it’s like impossible to follow. It’s like a fight scene with fairytale lore being thrown at you instead of shown. I also felt like writing one chapter from Xadens pov at the end left a lot to be desired
I look forward to reading the next book.

I hated this book. It was essentially a modge podge of every popular ya fantasy but they cussed and there were explicit scenes.

This book grips you when you start reading. It acts all unassuming before it grabs your hand and bolts, and as such you are just there now for a ride and there is no way to stop. I don't think I could explain my experience with this book any other way.

I went in thinking this would be a fun read and see what everyone was talking about, and It started off ok. I thought it was interesting and I wasn't 100% sure how I would feel about Violet as she comes across as a bit off to me. By the time we get into the academy I had grown to like Violet and very quickly I could see that Rebecca can write very compelling and complex characters, and by the end of the book I had grown to love them all.
I think the world building was fascinating. I keep wondering to myself what would a dragon riding academy be like and I think Rebecca did a really good job at bringing that idea to life. I would say that for the most part the book is not focused on the overall plot of the series but instead getting us invested in the people and the world so when we start getting to the bigger picture the stakes and consequences of everything has a much greater impact, because of that I don't think the overall plot had much development. I didn't mind this though as establishing the academy was still every interesting the the overall plot for the book, which is to bond a dragon and survive, was still thrilling and gripping.

By the end of the book i was so glad that my library had the second audiobook as I needed to start that right away.
