I could not put this down.  It is not my normal genre but it was so compelling that it didn't matter what the genre was.

This book was worth the hype. It’s gripping fantasy without complicated world-building that distracts from the plot, and it’s romance that adds to the story that doesn’t take away from it. I loved the non-romantic relationships that Yarros takes the time to flesh out as well.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. This book had everything for me from the action to the love interest, friendship, and let's not forget the awesome DRAGONS!!! I have no idea why I waited so long to read this book. As soon as I had finished it I wanted to reread it. Right off the bat when Dain was introduced I did not like him and throughout the book, my hatred for this character just continued to grow. I will never believe that he wanted what was best for Vi, if he did he would not have treated her the way he did. I loved the friend group that she made going through the first year, I can't wait to see what else develops with them. I will forever be heartbroken over what happened to Liam, why did it have to be him? Now on to my new favorite male fictional character Xaden Riorson, I love his interactions with Vi and how he wants her to grow and become strong. At the same time, he should not have kept secrets from her. They always find out. Of course, I love all the dragons. The fact that Vi can just be upfront with Tairn makes me laugh especially because he is this powerful dragon being told off by a little girl. Let's not forget about our little Gold Dragon Andarna I love that she carefree dragon who is curious and just wants to be helpful. I also had the ending of this book figured out and can not wait to read the next one. I will leave this review on one of the lines that I like in the book but trust me there are a lot of quotes.

"Hope is a fickle, dangerous thing. It steals your focus and aims it toward the possibilities instead of keeping it where it belongs--on the probabilities" Xaden page 130

I was worried it wasn’t going to be worth the hype.

And then it was.
