One of the greatest novel in the horror genre. Toni Morrison weaves us in and out of time questioning the reality that haunts these characters while facing the certainty of terror, and horrors of their lived experience

This book was very heavy but a good rood. I am glad I read it.

I did not have any expectations about the plot coming in, but whatever I could have expected, was not what I have encountered. The plot is poignant and heartbreaking with a level of mysticism and strangeness that I would not have ever anticipated to be in this type of book. At first, it was a bit challenging to understand what was going on, but if you kept reading, things became clearer. From the manifestation of Beloved into a solid body, I hoped that it comes to light that she is an actual person and not a spirit, however, her being a spirit does emphasise the degree to which a person (i.e. Sethe) can be shackled to their past, where their regrets are so thick that they materialise into some type of entity. Moreover, the fact that nobody in this book is depicted as perfect brought more colour and insight into the complexity of human nature, racism, etc. This book is not for everyone as it is quite heavy and dark, not to mention the style of writing, but if you are in search for an emotional and insightful book that tackles issues of slavery and racism while also discussing the fragility of human nature and the dangers of holding onto past, then give this book a go.
