This is called a beginner's guide for a reason, and as I read, I realised I probably want something more in depth. But that's on me, not on the book, and if you *are* in the early stages of your romance writing journey it is informative and accessible and would probably be very useful for you. In fact, even though it wasn't quite what I'm looking for, it still had some good insights and helpful reminders that I will take away and try to use in my own writing. The exercises sprinkled throughout are practical and helpful, and you absolutely could use them and the book as a guide to help you get those l the bones of your own ideas into shape. I also particularly appreciated the way the author made sure to include the increasing diversity of romance as a genre, never once falling back on the assumption that romance books are always about one hero and one heroine.

Small TW for one throwaway HP reference - I will be so glad when that series is no longer the go-to pop culture reference for *everything*.
