Unnecessarily tragic, almost comical.

Too much. Not enjoyable. Why would you read this? Why would you write this?

I don't recommend this book. I would not have read it if I knew what it was about.

That said, the writing is beautiful, and I have never been so invested in characters from a book. I wanted so badly for things to go well even as I slowly realized the inevitable direction the story was heading. The fact that I not only kept going but looked forward to reading more despite the depressing plot is a testament to its brilliance.

Insert every trigger warning ever, but no book has made me feel as hard as this one does. There’s a lot of valid critiques on the severity of the content, but it’s so innovatively written; the story-telling is incredible. It definitely helps to remind yourself that it’s fiction, but that didn’t stop me from sobbing several times. I can’t say I recommend it to anyone, but it is extremely impactful.

Truly the most tedious, fluffy, ridiculous book I’ve ever read. I really wanted to like it, I read it all. But seriously so slow, too long and in essence just misery porn.

Jude as the main character is so frustrating. He is always a bad friend, a bad partner, a bad person and everyone allows him to be. He’s an addict to his trauma and everyone enables him. And don’t even get me started on the misleading synopsis. None of the so-called friends are mentioned after the first fourth of the book.

The fact that I had to list like 50 trigger warnings with no real payoff is concerning.

I didn't find anything about this book appealing and I would not recommend it to anyone.
