“Alone, Empty, Fraud, Shame, Fear. Close your eyes. There is nothing to see out here.”

Would just wanna say that the plot twist at the end is a good one. Something I had not expected but mostly because I was focused on the sexual tension between Ryen and Misha.
Imagine not knowing what your own son looks like? Damn.

I think I like this story more than Birthday Girl but it might be also me not fully focused when I was listening to that book. I was more focused with this story and to be honest, I love the friends to enemies to lovers theme of this story. They were best friends first but then later on became enemies once they've actually met one another (granted that one of them does not know who the other person is). It's such a tragic to actually meet someone on the first chapter and just getting your heart broken after she was announced dead after the next few chapters (and no, this ain't a spoiler because it's literally on the first three chapters). I would have loved to meet Annie. But I guess, in order for the story to progress, it had to happen. I would have been devastated as well if I lost someone that close to me.

I can also understand where Ryen is coming from - with how she's the "popular cheerleader" girl but when she really is a different person. I would also be as surprised as Misha when he found out that the girl he's been writing letters with for the past seven years is an entirely different person. I'm really glad Misha was there to straighten Ryen out but the only downside was that he took too long to confess who he really was. It's hard to tell someone the truth the longer you lie.

Overall, a great read if you'd like the teenage sexual drive since they really do be doing it intensely given their age. Penelope really writes amazing sexual scenes, to be honest. I'm here for it.

This book was an emotional ride for me. It is enemies to lovers. I really appreciated the characters growth throughout the book. Both the female and male characters start off as people I don't love, and then they treat each other awfully. As they push each other to be better people, they grow as well.

I ended up really liking the book because of the growth that the characters made throughout the story.

There were some twists and surprises I didn't see coming that were fun and sometimes sad.

Very passionate and intense sex scenes, and the two main characters definitely had chemistry

I've seen multiple TikToks about this book also about what a great book boyfriend Misha is so I was intrigued and due to the pretty good Amazon reviews, I decided to buy this book. Misha is far from being the perfect boyfriend and Ryen is also shit. I've never hated both main characters so much. At least Ryen knows that she's not great, even though that is one of her major problems. She is so insecure that she has to bully others to feel like she belongs. Misha on the other hand sure thinks he's perfect and he's gaslighting Ryen all the time because she does not fit into his picture of her. He doesn't give s*** about consent: Ryen says multiple times no but he doesn't f****** care because he thinks he knows what's best for her. Moreover, he's so disappointed that Ryen does not fit his perfect picture of her that he's constantly trying to change her and calls her out all the time at school. I don't get why they start f****** each other because they seem to hate each other so much and right, I might understand a little why Ryen acts this way but no idea why Misha is making Ryen's life so unbelievably hard, especially because he knows she is his best friend! He is also pretty horrible to all other female characters. I was already triggered when his sister went for run at night which caused him to get super super super protective and him not wanting to allow her to go out for run. I mean it was obvious something's going to happen just to prove him right. I still hate it how he behaves, I know that boys are supposed to be cool and sexy but I was just so annoyed by Misha and his charades. I do not recommend reading this book it was a waste of time. I was hoping he might redeem himself, however, he just stayed the toxic way he was. He and Ryen stayed both crappy until the last page.

I wish we knew more about their high school friends like Manny and Ten. They were some of my favourites.
