We'll. truth to tell, I don't like spy stories. And this book about the CIA, et al., is full of double crosses and triple crosses. My head was dizzy reading it. Basically it's about a former Tourist, now a middle manager, who is drawn back into the brutal game.
Spy Thriller is not my favourite genre, but from time to time I like to read something else than my usual reads. 'The Tourist' has everything what a good espionage book should have - and there's a huge surprise waiting for the readers in the end. Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I felt lost in names various characters (which I generally hate in books), but overall I recommended 'The Tourist' as a interesting and exciting book.
As a big fan of spy novels, I've been looking for a replacement for the late, great Robert Ludlum. Olen Steinhauer might be the closest one I've found. A good, twisted read, full of international intrigue that takes place from the ground floor level. Will definitely check out the rest of the Milo Weaver series soon.
Ugh. The story itself I think was well-written. I'm kind of interested to see the movie, because I think the story sets itself up better to be a movie.
My issue with the book is that there are too many characters for it to be a fluid story. Tourists and CIA agents and family members and spies and Homeland Security and bad guys... just, too much. Wasn't enough time to give the characters AND the story adequate attention without one or the other becoming oversaturated and boring.
