I loved Blindness but I struggled with Seeing. I like how Saramago writes, but the plot was so ridiculous. I just couldn't suspend disbelief about what was happening.
Saramago siempre sabe como tocar esas fibritas que se encuentran bien escondidas. Después de varios libros leídos del autor, me doy cuenta que siempre tiene esos golpes de ingenio, que sin darte cuenta te empiezan a taladrar la cabeza hasta formar un hoyo.

Another Saramago that I enjoyed although I question whether I liked it more than 'Blindness'. It was a slow burn to begin with but truly did pick up its pace towards the end. Most definitely a classic series that leaves you questioning yourself and the society in which we live.
A pretty damning meditation on the abuse of power by 'democratic' governments, done with the lightest of touches, a sly wit, and a humorous subversion of the relationship between author/narrator and reader. A 21st century Brecht.

Four years after the story in Blindness, more than 70 percent of the voters in the unnamed country's capitol cast blank ballots in the election. The horrified government cracks down on the residents of the capitol, seeking to place blame for this act perceived as anti-democratic. Is their choice driven by an evil cabal - or do the vast majority of citizens simply oppose the politics of the major parties? How far will the government go to expose and punish their opposition? Stark and scary - a model for our times.
