This gentleman thief in his foppish attempts to match Sherlock Holmes reaches goofy heights, which though fun is not a compliment.
Between the anime adventures of his fictional grandson and the Netflix modern day adaptation Lupin has been a big presence of my lockdown life, so felt compelled to go back to the origin stories, a set of French turn of the twentieth century short stories about a master thief who sets up an endless stream of intricate heists, sometimes for banter, sometimes for sport, sometimes with a kind of Robin Hood angle.
The stories vary in quality inevitably- one set aboard a train where Lupin himself is robbed are sensational, others like a copyright baiting adventure which puts Lupin against Sherlock Holmes (in some editions Herlock Shmomes as Conan Doyle took exception) are throwaway good fun. Pretty good overall and an easy read.

marvellous! i love heist stories so this was right up my alley. its not as clever as the christies ive been devouring recently, but i still greatly enjoyed this. it was so fun to witness arsene lupin in action.
A few spelling errors in this edition, but the stories were enjoyable.
