These stories pretty much could not have less substance, but they are a terrifically delightful bit of fun. I was slightly disappointed that my least favorite stories came right at the end of the collection, but overall I had a great time.

Arsene Lupin, Gentleman-Thief - the most polite thief in all of France! Should you ever encounter him, have no fear; simply follow his telegramed request to have whatever valuables he requires at the ready for him to steal at the appointed time, and he will kindly take them off your hands before you even realize he's done it! You'll have the satisfaction of knowing your jewels, paintings, and other finery are going to a good home (Lupin's), to be privately enjoyed all his life. If your money has been made by filching from the poor, or from powerless underlings, rest assured, your fortune will be fairly divided amongst your former victims! This service will be performed sans violence (for your convenience and safety are paramount), and with the utmost discretion. Loads of wholesome thievery, and fun for the whole family are included in the package, at no extra charge. No hidden fees - ever.
In 1909, France, crime apparently not only paid better than it does in today's market, but was a whole lot more fun! M. Gournay-Martin receives a lovely notice of Lupin's desire to steal some valuable paintings. He grudgingly obliges, and then calls the police, which includes the bumbling examining magistrate M. Formery, and Lupin's nemesis, "the famous Chief-Inspector Guerchard, head of the Detective Department of the Prefecture of Police." Lupin has far too much fun playing cat and mouse with Guerchard, and as the plot progresses, the reader begins to suspect that someone among the Gournay-Martin household is not what they seem. Are they accomplices of Lupin? Lupin himself? I even began to wonder if Lupin could possibly be a woman!
The novel is full of old-school suspense, intense intrigue, and a splash of Gaulish humor, and lots of fun. For fans of the Golden Age of mystery novels, French humor, and heist/caper movies such as Ocean's 11.
This one will be going to my "favorites" shelf for sure!

Bru Maurice LeBlanc is so clever with creating Lupin's thefts! I def did buy this book after watching Lupin on Netflix.
The only reason I hesitate to give this book 4 stars is bc I found chapters 'La Collier de la reine' and 'le sept de Coeur' to b kinda boring.

Yes, I came here from the show, but I’m here to stay!
Lupin the person is hilarious. Some of the mysteries are better than others (and the translation is wonky at times) but I can’t get enough of Lupin when he’s in the scene. On to the next one!

Was intrigued by the tv show my friends had watched - the show was a bit gritty for my taste, but this book was delightful! A charming surprise, really enjoyed it!
