I was so excited for this book. Unfortunately I was left pretty disappointed.
The characters were really annoying in my opinion. Ian wasn't a bad character, but nothing unique. Lara was so very annoying. I didn't like her at all. They didn't like each other, for obvious reasons and then all of a sudden there was supposed to be chemistry.. I didn't see any chemistry. At. All.
The ending was pretty rushed and kind of predictable and since I already didn't love the romance it just fell kind of flat as a whole for me.
The writing wasn't my favorite either.
I'm definitely giving the other books in this series a try and hope for the best.
This one however was not it for me.

IT WAS SO GOOD!!!
At first, I was a bit skeptical about Ian, but soon I started to like him.
And Lara OMG I LOVED HER!!
This was such a refreshing reading, I wasn't at all expecting to like this much (I knew it would be good tho, because hey it's Lauren Layne!). I loved the couple but a thing that I loved even more was the dynamics between Ian, Kate, Matt, Kennedy and Sabrina (and later Lara as an addition to the group). Lauren writes found family trope like no one else (!!!) and it shows !!!! Their banter and bickering was so fun, and I absolutely thought it was lovely the way they were always ready to protect one another

didn’t connect that much with lara and ian,,, but kate and kennedy,,, i mean,,, omg theyre great awee
So the investigator falls for the guy she was supposed to investigate, I love this.
Ian is a wall street guy who always worked hard for everything he conquered, when Lara shows up to investigate him and his team for privileged informations after an anonymous source reported him, soon they can't deny the chemistry between them, but Lara can't date the guy she's trying to find evidence againt and Ian can't seem to forget the one woman he can't have.
I liked the couple development, it was (kind of) a forbidden romance, I was anxious to know what would happen in the end because she was investigating him so things could get ugly fast.. but it surprised me.
It was a good book, not great but good enough to read and forget everything else, I have a feeling the next books will be better. Lauren Layne's writing is so relaxing I could read another 50 books by her because even the books I didn't love, I still liked. Seems like she never wrote a bad book.

“I don’t give a damn about right and wrong, or black and white, or rules and protocols. I only give a damn about him, about the way he makes me feel.”
An enemy to lovers' romance, wooo yas I love a little angst, banter and sexual tension.
Sometimes a quick entertaining adult romance is just what I need, not forgetting to add on a little spice here and there.
This really picks up quick and the pace of the book doesn't waste anyone's time.
Make sense of how short the book is.
I flew through the book and was pretty satisfied with how entertaining it is.
Not going to lie, I was a little scared every time the male main character is an arrogant womanizer asshole, but hey don't judge a book by its cover.
The book focuses on the tension and the plotline of the investigation with Ian and Lara.
It has well balanced of angst, banter, humour and the romance were quick but enjoyable.
The side characters were a good mix here and there, adding a little fun and annoyance to our main characters.
The ending was definitely an "awww cute moment"
“Isn't this every woman's fantasy, to be the one who tames the untamable?”
