Ok, ammetto di aver letto Melissa P. e di averlo apprezzato... Perchè se togliamo le parti spinte, è davvero carino e pieno di sentimenti reali. Posso affermare con assoluta lucidità che mi è piaciuto!

While in Jamaica, I started and finished reading Melissa P’s book 100 Strokes of the Brush Before Bed. This international bestseller was something I picked up many months ago with a Borders Gift Card and finally got around to reading. It uses a diary entry style and gives the reader the point of view of a teenage girl’s sexual/romantic development in a town in Italy. The book’s shocking pieces could be offset by the vivid and scarce language, but the almost Hollywood ending doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the story. In some ways, it’s like Brass, that I wrote about before. If you have nothing else to read, pick this up. But, don’t interrupt your regularly scheduled reading list to pick this one up.

I read this in a hour one morning. It's not an erotic book, it's more about how messed up in the head the main character gets due to all the weird sexual encounters she has with men, women, and groups. It's written in journal form, and a very fast read. It's okay, interesting if you are into books about "downward spirals", but nothing great.

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. But be warned it's very erotic! I don't usually go for that kind of book but I actually enjoyed it. I think it balanced really well with the narrative of the novel. I would recommend it if you're looking for something different.

I disagree with many of the one and two star reviews here. If you are looking for 50 Shades of Gray or classic romance, you will be disappointed. This is a beautifully written, raw, and disturbing account of a young girl's quest for love or lack thereof. This book explores a teen's lack of self esteem and self worth and the boundaries she will cross to feel accepted and "loved" in the only way she thinks she deserves.
I've heard the author is a teenager herself and this gives the book even more power. Melissa is such a talented writer, pulling at your heart strings one minute and exposing you to the grotesque, gritty life of sex without love the next moment. I think people need to hear what she is saying and know that this is not just fiction, but the mindset and thought process of many teenage girls in the world today. Melissa does a great job in bringing these truths to light.

"Diary, wars kill us, earthquakes debilitate us, lava engulfs us, and love betrays us."

"I'm well aware that the devil sometimes sails under the false colours, revealing his identity only after he has defeated you."

"Yet punishment always hovers over our heads, the sharpened point of the sword is poised there, ready to pierce our skulls when we least expect it."

"I was thinking that people bash convulsively against the world just like that stupid insect: they create noise and confusion, they buzz around things without ever managing to seize them completely; sometimes they mistake a trap for the object of their desire and get killed, rotting beneath the blue reflector of the cage."

"Violence kills me, wears me down, dirties me, and feeds on me, but with and for it I survive, I feed on it."

"Where have you ended up, Narcissa, you who loved yourself so much, who smiled so much, who wanted to give as much as she received? Where have you ended up with your dreams, your hopes, your manias, those of life as well as death? Where have you ended up, mirror image? Where do I search for you? Where do I find you? How can I control you?"

Un menos que mediocre libro con una efectista y efectiva campaña de marketing.

Definirlo "libro" è eccessivo. Morbosismo puro che vuole solo compiacersi di se stesso. Soldi buttati.
