We read "Dear Mrs. Bird" for Book Club last year, and I fell in love with the characters, the plot, and the storyline, so when I saw book two was coming out, I knew I had to add it to my "to-read" list!

This series, again, follows Emmy, Bunty, and Emmy's colleagues through WWII in England. From the Rosie the Riveter mentality of women joining the work force, to the challenges they face, all while Emmy is trying to plan her last minute wedding and keep her job up! Women's Friend is still not in the best graces since Mrs. Bird was there, but Emmy is sure to make it a popular and hip magazine again with her series on working women who give back to the war effort.

This is book 2 in a series.

Yours Cheerfully is a hopeful read featuring themes of courage and friendship and it felt like I was getting back to reading about characters I knew and I was very much looking forward to reading more about Emmy and Bunty in this next book and their other friends too.

This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading Dear Mrs. Bird because you will know the characters better and there is definitely events from the first book that has set up the story for this novel. Both books are heartwarming, charming, and comforting reads in their own way.

Yours Cheerfully sees Emmy moving forward in her journalism career and women supporting women, the involvement of women during war times and participation in the war effort in London, England in the 1940's and fighting for equal wages and working conditions. There is also a continuing wartime romance between Emmy and Charles.

I recommend Yours Cheerfully for readers who enjoy heartwarming World War II historical fiction with a bit of romance who also enjoy brave, independent, strong female protagonists.

I am definitely looking forward to reading Mrs. Porter Calling which is the next book in the Emmy Lake Chronicles.

This was an amazing book! I enjoyed the first book and LOVED the sequel. Solid story, well developed characters, and definitely pulled your emotions. It was slightly beyond belief that the characters make solid friends so very quickly with anyone they meet but beyond that it was realistic too. Strong women living life and standing up for what they believe but without clean everything-falls-perfectly-into-place plot lines. Read the first book first but this is even better.
