"Think about the women. They're the ones keeping everything going while the boys are away... Our job is to help them, just as much as we help the war effort."
" 'In my view,' says Bunty the next morning, 'there are women who stick up for each other, and women who don't. Your either one or the other. It's as simple as that.' "
.......................
Yours Cheerfully is the sequel to Dear Mrs Bird, which I enjoyed reading last year. Both are historical fiction novels set in London during WW2. Dear Mrs. Bird follows Emmy as she accidentally becomes a magazine's women's advice collumnist. In Yours Cheerfully, it follows her to job promotion with reporting, swoony romance with a soldier, and meeting and interviewing women war workers (& helping them fight to be treated fairly at work).
I loved the humor and the numerous old-fashioned expressions throughout. The message of gender equality and fighting for your friends and what you believe in, as well as some good old-fashioned romance. Such a smooth written, good read. Highly recommend.

Set in WWII Britain, we follow Emmy Lake as she works for Women's Friend magazine and tries to help recruit women to work for the war effort...but then finds that some of them are stymied by a lack of resources, such as childcare that matches their schedule. She wants to be patriotic, but also to truly be a friend to women.
enjoyable reading with crackling dialogue that reads like it's authentic (although having not been alive during WWII in Britain I can't say for sure)
